3D Printing (Additive Manufacturing)

3D Printed Parts

When you can supply DESE with a 2D drawing or sketch of your part, will use SolidWorks to create a 3D CAD model of this part. This CAD model can be sent directly to you in 3D printer format (model_name.stl), or to a company that specializes in 3D Printing. This 3D printing company will send the finished part directly to you.

Typical Parts That Can Be 3D Printed

Click on the 3D Printing image on the right side of this page to see examples of parts that can be 3D printed, and a table that gives typical mechanical properties of 3D Printing Materials.

3D Print Compared to 3D SolidWorks Model

The images above show a 3D printed part compared to the SolidWorks model used to create this part. The 3D model is made from ASA T16 Blue.

How 3D Printing Works

Every 3D printer builds parts based on the same principle: a digital 3D CAD model is converted to a physical 3-dimensional object by adding material one thin layer at a time. This is where the term Additive Manufacturing comes from. Click the 3D PRINTING image below to see some examples of parts that can be 3D Printed.

Benefits of 3D Printing

LOW-COST PROTOTYPING & QUICK TURNAROUNDS. 3D Printing can be done at a fraction of the cost of other manufacturing processes, The prototype parts are usually finished overnight.
